They say hindsight is 20/20, and looking back at 2022—the year my first daughter was born—I see a journey of incredible strength, but also the moment I realized something was missing for new mothers.
My daughter arrived on the 1st of May, and like any new mom, I was overjoyed. But the transition wasn’t seamless. Between the physical demands of breastfeeding and the haze of sleep deprivation, I found myself living in just three garments: a basic T-shirt, one dress, and a robe.
As an expat without family nearby, I was doing it all. I felt unkempt and disconnected from the woman I was before. It wasn’t until my aunt visited in August that I finally felt the sun on my face again. She took me to get my hair done, we grabbed coffee, and she took over the laundry. That small shift—feeling cared for and looking like "myself" again—changed everything.
I am incredibly proud that I navigated those early days, but I also know now that it doesn’t have to be that hard.
When I found out I was pregnant again, my first thought was: What makes ME feel like myself? For me, the answer is a clean, organized home, nourishing food, and nice clothes. I realized that during my first postpartum journey, my clothes were purely functional—and barely that. They didn't make me feel beautiful; they just made nursing possible.
This realization is the heartbeat of the MABEL MAMA Blouse. I believe every mother deserves to feel beautiful after achieving the miracle of giving life. You shouldn't have to choose between the ease of breastfeeding and the confidence of a well-made outfit.
I’m designing these patterns because:
I did it alone once, and I did it well—but this time, I’m doing it differently. I’m prioritizing my well-being, and I want to help you do the same.
